Seifudein Adem was born in Ethiopia, earned diplomas and degrees from Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), from International University of Japan (Japan), from London School of Journalism (England) and from University of Tsukuba (Japan), especializing in international relations, comparative and cross-cultural communications and international political economy. Dr. Adem is the 1999 finalist of a national essay contest named after Japan’s former Prime Minister Eisaku Sato, winner of the Nobel Prize in peace in 1974. Dr. Adem is also recipient of fellowships and grants including from the US government (United States Information Agency, 1990), from the government of Japan (Ministry of Education, Monbusho, 1995-1997; Japan Society for the Promotion of Sciences, 2008-11) and from private agencies (Tokyo Electric Power Company, 1992-1994; Ford Foundation, 2008). So far Dr. Adem has published three books as author, three books as editor and co-editor, seven chapters in books edited by others; and eighteen articles in academic journals; and he has taught in three continents (four years in Ethiopia, five years in Japan, and three years in the United States). Dr. Adem currently serves also as vice president of the New York State African Studies Association.
